The Winter 2010 issue of Stationery Trends Magazine featured Sugarcube Press’s Crumbs products! Sarah Schwartz, Editor-extraordinaire, interviewed Kelsie to find out more about the how, the what and the why of it all!

“Neccesity is the mother of invention, and lately sustainability is a neccessity. Sugarcube Press’ Kelsie Zimmerman and Elizabeth Rittmeyer have always embraced green business practices, but their efforts didn’t stop there.
Enter Crumbs, DIY card kits available in several themes whose ingredients would have otherwise ended up in the recycle bin. Each includes letterpress clippings as well as two cards and envelopes. Stationery Trends interviewed Zimmerman to learn about how this line came to be. ” To read more, download a pdf of the rest of the Sugarcube Press Stationery Trends Magazine Article.
A lovely evening was had by all at Urbanic in Venice last Friday for a First Friday on Abbot Kinney Blvd. From hot buttered rum cider to wine to chocolate cupcakes and sweet treats, it was a festive evening ringing in the holiday season. A big thanks to Audrey, Joshua (Javin, too!), Tess & Celia for having us. We loved the feedback from the evening, showing people the art of letterpress, and meeting letterpress enthusiasts!

With us, along with some letterpress goodies, we hauled in our table-top “portable” press. At 180 pounds, it’s not too light, but well worth the fun and excitement that surrounded it all night. As a special treat, we brought down coasters, that we made into ornaments. Guests enjoyed imprinting a message onto the coaster, and adding our signature bakery twine to adorn the holiday home. Happy Hoo-hoo-lidays all!

Oranges, yellows, halloween & holidays adorn the print studio & packaging area today. We said good-bye to our last halloween shipment of the year and are busy fulfilling orders for some sweet holiday cheer! Holidays came later this year (kinda nice), so at least we’re not in 100 degree summer heat printing holiday orders!

This is a great 2nd year for Christine’s postcard and her great gothy-look at WORD Bookshop in Brooklyn, NY. Perfect as we head into the traditional holidays, especially in the Northeastern US with Tarrytown (Sleepy Hollow), Salem and Sam Hain for Fall rituals. She keeps the postcard available all year.

Jamie Hoffer, a wonderful woman we met at Landis Stationery on Larchmont in Los Angeles, during one of our press events, had us print her daughter’s Bat Mitvah invitation that she designed herself. Beautiful raspberry ink on crisp white frosting stock. All text with deep impression.

Hard metal into soft paper. These are fun as gift tags, place settings, business cards… and for drinks! Ask for them in your favorite stationery store.
Our Lime skull is in stores now! More color to jazz up Halloween-times, perfect for the Day of the Dead, or as a delightfully macabe “I love you” note. Say it sinfully or sweet.
My favorite teacher at U of Southern Maine, Rebecca Goodale, was a very inspiring fiber and book artist. One of the best assignments was two students sat together; ONE TOLD a story of their own, the OTHER ILLUSTRATED it… what do people imagine we are telling them?
Sweetly fun, modern yet traditional, drink coasters. They can also be used as gift tags or ornaments, just get your hole-punch.

Antique Golden deer to be overlaid with Sterling Silver snowflakes and paired with a mossy green envelope.
Cutsey owls for our DIY collage cards called “crumbs”; it’s all made from small scrap paper that would otherwise be tossed, not big enough for invitations but it’s the perfect size for collage pieces.

Letterpressed Wedding Invitation
Recently a delicious wedding we worked on has been popping up in the blog-o-sphere. We spotted it on style me pretty, and thought we would share some stunning photos Crystal, the beautiful bride, has sent in. Her wedding at the Firestone Vineyard in Los Olivos, California was simply stunning. Crystal & Mark, high school sweethearts since ages 13 & 15, had the most intimate and sweet affair with 18 guests mostly traveling from out of town. As you can see, no detail was left unturned. The end of the day culminated with a candle-lit dinner in the Firestone Vineyard’s Barrel Room. A custom wine-pairing menu was both elegant and to-die-for (we all commented on wanting that menu at an anniversary dinner!).
Sugarcube Press provided all the sweet letterpressed paper treats, and the ever-so-talented José Villa, was the photographer.

Crystal & Mark's Letterpressed Coasters
Crystal & Mark wanted a hand-calligraphied feel, and we created the invitation from a script in our collection. The classic black licorice ink on white frosting 100% tree-free paper was off-set with our salt licorice envelopes. It was a combo that was both simple and classic that emanated beauty. We carried Crystal & Mark’s initials and names throughout the weekend event, appearing on letterpressed coasters, napkins, welcome bag tags, note cards (with a note from the couple), wine bottle favor tags, and of-course, the menu.
Crystal & Mark, we enjoyed being a part of your wedding planning…we wish you many sweet years of love & laughter. Thanks for sharing your day with us.

We’ve been a little busy over here with the new designs coming out and shipping all the product from the New York Show orders. Elizabeth has been busy printing like a mad-woman, as I’m prepping all our marketing and packaging orders. In between this, we’ve been doing a few custom weddings. We thought we’d share what has been making Elizabeth’s hands even more inky than normal….cherry red & vintage gold to be precise! The lovely Laura Hooper will be doing the calligraphy on Paula & James’s Floral Invitations.
